March 31: Felt Bunny Puppet

This cute bunny puppet was an Easter surprise for my little niece, A.

I found the idea on the Purl bee website, and like always, they had a great tutorial and pattern. http://www.purlbee.com/the-purl-bee/2012/3/18/mollys-sketchbook-bunny-hand-puppets.html

Using what I had on hand, I changed the colors from their directions quite a bit, but bunny still turned out a cutie, just like A.

My favorite part about bunny is his sweet little face and his fluffy looking tail.

March 30: Lent Day 38

Actions Speak Loud

Do not believe me unless I do what my father does.
But, if I do it, even though you do not believe me,
believe the miracles, that you may know and understand
that the Father is in me and I in the Father.
John 10:37-38

March 29: Fabric Eggs

Today I continued on my Easter projects with these fabric eggs I saw on Pinterest. You can check out the tutorial here, http://retro-mama.blogspot.com/2009/03/easter-is-in-air.html

The tutorial has a great printable pattern. I followed the instructions except I didn't worry about the selvedge or the dots on the pattern, and they turned out just fine. Also I did not have stuffing to use, so I filled the eggs with rice.

This also worked fine and I think allows them to sit up a little easier on their own. I only finished stitching up two (hand stitching is not my favorite). However, I packed the rest up to take with me to the coffee shop this afternoon. Between customers and cleaning I hope to finish them up.

Then I just have to decide where to put the little guys. I have a few ideas already.

March 28: Easter Embroidery

I finally decided it was time to get my butt in gear and start decorating for Easter. Project 1: a simple cross embroidery to add to my collection in the living room.

This was an easy project to take along, and between a slow shift at the coffee shop yesterday and a little finishing up today, it is already hanging on the wall.

I figure I can change out this embroidery hoop seasonally, adding a little special touch to whatever time of the year it is.

If you missed my post on the embroidery hoops and mirrors display, check it out here, http://1creativeendeavor.blogspot.com/2012/03/march-1-embroidery-hoop-mirrors-display.html

Truth will set you Free

To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said,
"If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.
Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free."

March 27: Lent Day 35

Remedy

So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, he lived.
Numbers 21:9

Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.
John 3:14-15

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign:

March 24: Lent Day 32

Submission . Obedience

During the days of Jesus' life on earth,
he offered up prayers and petitions
with loud cries and tears to the one
who could save him from death,
and he was heard because of his reverent submission.
Although he was a son, he learned obedience
from what he suffered and once made perfect
he became the source of eternal salvation
for all who obey him.
Hebrews 5:7-9

March 22: Behind the Books Secret Storage

Recently, we decided to rearrange our living room, getting rid of our TV and replacing it with a smaller computer monitor and a roku (little box from which you can stream tv, movies, music etc. from internet). Now, we have never had cable and our TV never got good reception in this apartment, so we are not giving up much or anything really. In fact I like the new setup much better than the old. The monitor, roku, speakers, and our internet are now all set up on the bookshelves. They are much less consuming of space than the old TV was; this I like a lot. However looking at all the wires and the internet thinygs was driving me crazy. So, I devised a plan, behind the books secret storage, to hide it all.

looks like real books
but the insides are missing, for secret storage
the internet thingys on the bookshelf before
internet thingys hidden behind the books, in secret storage
last shelf now complete
the new living room set-up

Interested in how to make some secret storage, keep reading.
1. Collect some books you don't mind destroying (I bought mine at Good Will)
2. Remove book cover from pages. I first used my fingers to sort of loosen the book binding and then used an exacto knife to cut out the pages.
Be careful not to press too hard with exacto knife; I cut one of the bindings, then fixed it with a little masking tape.
Continue to remove all covers from book pages. I used 5 books, but you can use as many or few as you like.
3. Decide what order you want the books placed in.
4. Use an exacto knife to cut the covers of the books. For end books you will need to leave one cover whole and cut other cover. For center books you will cut both covers. I cut off the covers at about an inch from the binding; that inch will be used for connecting them on the next step.
5. Lay out book bindings in the order they will be connected.
6. Connect book bindings using hot glue. Put a line of hot glue on the inch of cover, push next book binding cover piece to that piece. Continue until all book bindings are connected.
That's it. Your behind the books secret storage is ready to be placed on the bookshelf.
